Alice: Madness Returns

It’s an action/adventure game, released in 2011 by Spice Horse and EA that can be bought and downloaded from steam, which, in my opinion, is one of the best alternatives in PC gaming, from here:

Alice is an orphan whose parents died in a fire and Dr. Bumby, the doctor in her orphanage, is trying to make her forget her memories, theoretically to help her feel better.

She lives a real sad life with no friends nor any happiness so she tries to find shelter in her hallucinations about Wonderland, but her special place isn’t as good as it was before, it has changed, pollution has taken over it, things aren’t as friendly as they used to be.

As you get deeper and deeper into Wonderland, trying to solve what’s wrong to fix it, which is also helping her figure out what’s wrong in her real life, you have different weapons, such as the “Vorpal Blade” and the “Pepper Grinder“, to face strange creatures who are taking over her hallucination.

This game gets a little repetitive after a while, always jumping, left-clicking, sometimes right-clicking… The game creators didn’t invest much effort in gameplay. As for the graphics, they look pretty good and consistent with the idea of a really dark Wonderland. The music is very rich and varies depending on what’s going on in the screen. The story is pretty decent, with a slight turn of events further into the game that caught me off guard.

  • Gameplay: Fair;
  • Graphics: Very good;
  • Difficulty: Fair (you can select different ones, but it’s either too easy or impossible);
  • Story: Good.

Would I recommend this game?
It really depends, if your intentions are to download this game and play nonstop to the end of it, you probably won’t be able to do it, since it gets too repetitive. I recommend this game for occasional players, who likes to play a little of this, a little of that, instead of doing a marathon. It gets interesting if you play it once in a while.
